Madagascar

Separated from Africa about 165 million years ago, Madagascar underwent a distinguished natural evolution from the rest of the world. As a consequence, the biodiversity turned different. Eighty percent of the fauna & flora species are endemic. Madagascar is also known as the "Noah's ark"... an island paradise for botanists, primatologists, or simply curious visitors. You will never see a large animal gathering in Madagascar. You have to enter the bush and forests to spot the secretive animal kingdom of wild endemic lemurs, birds, chameleons or geckos, triangular palms, pandanus, tree ferns, orchids, aloes, or pachypodium...

Although the national park network allows the visitor a good overview of all its natural wonders, there are yet many alternative, non classified places that are equally interesting, offering unusual authenticity. Only a few protected areas can be visited by car. Most of the time, nature appreciation is reserved to be enjoyed by foot. There is however a walking trail for every age and fitness level, ranging from easy to the more challenging. Rest assured that your efforts will be greatly rewarded!
